Most long-time contractors are skilled at building both houses and relationships that last. Jim Costalupes has put together a top-notch team of artisans some of whom have worked for him for more than a decade. When the Costalupes team built our lake-view home in Incline Village, we enjoyed working with the crew as much as we enjoyed watching them work. We still consider several crew members our close friends, and when other crew members see us on the street they never fail to give us a handshake or a hug. We worked on a cost-plus-percentage basis, which was more expensive than a fixed-cost contract, but it allowed us to change our minds as we went along. The crew never complained although they certainly joked about building a bathroom privacy wall, tearing it down half way, and finally tearing it down altogether. But this kind of flexibility allowed us to create a house we still consider the most comfortable, convenient, functional, and beautiful house imaginable, one in which it's a pleasure to live. Any house looks good when its fresh out of the box, but our 10-year old looks as good as it did brand new. Using high-quality materials has paid off in low maintenance and easy upkeep.
